Why I’m Running

I’m Danielle Dougherty, a mom, a veteran, a Family Nurse Practitioner, and a ninth generation West Virginian, and I’m running for the House of Delegates in District 66 because our kids deserve more than just surviving in these mountains.

Raised in a working class family in Randolph County, I learned early the value of service, hard work, and standing up for what is right. Those values led me to serve our country, become a nurse, and work on the front lines of West Virginia’s substance use crisis.

As a parent, I am frustrated by leaders who put personal agendas ahead of the people they are meant to serve. I am running to fight for strong public schools, support for teachers and state employees, affordable utilities, early childhood development, and an economy that allows families to stay, work, and thrive.

The Issues

“I fought for our country. Now I am ready to fight for West Virginia, and an economy where families can stay, work, and thrive.”

- Danielle Dougherty

  • West Virginians who work hard every day deserve good-paying jobs right here at home, so they don’t have to leave the state to make a living. When jobs pay enough to raise a family and stick around in our towns and hollers, our communities grow stronger instead of shrinking.

  • I know West Virginia families feel rising prices hard, whether it’s groceries, gas, or keeping the lights on. I believe an economy should let people here afford the basics and keep more of what they earn, not fall behind despite working full-time.

  • I believe strong schools are essential for our community so our kids can build a future without feeling like they have to move away to succeed. When families are stable and communities are strong, our schools can give students the opportunities they deserve right here in the Mountain State.
